Pre-School Letter Yy

Jax is 4 1/2 years old.

Bible

Our Bible verse this week is "You are my friends if you do what I command.  John 15:14."  We learned about the story of baby Jesus and how Mary had to ride on a donkey to Bethlehem.  It only seemed fitting to play Pin the Tail on the Donkey, don't you think?  Printable was from First Look Curriculum at Orange.

Math

Suddenly this week something just clicked in Jaxson about adding!  He has been telling me that 1+1=2 and that 2+2=4.  This worksheet was from RRSK.

Sight Words

Jaxson was working on a Word Search from YCR.

We also had a guest at Tot School.  Someone is no longer taking naps and is really messing up my schedule!

While Jax was coloring one of his sight words, Julie colored along as well.

Science

I had seen this science experiment on pinterest and wanted to try it out.  We put candy canes in water to see the stripes come off.  They were supposed to dissolve in the water with the stripes intact, but ours didn't do that.  And as you can see from the multi-colored candy cane, it just made a murky mess.  Still fun though.  We left the candy canes in until they dissolved!

Theme

Jax still loves Yo Gabba Gabba so I found some printables from Nick Jr.  He loved playing the Memory game and learned how to play Dominos.

Our Bible verse this week was, "Verily, Verily, I say to you he that believeth in me hath everlasting life."  John 6:47  We taped the Bible verse together and then completed a craft from RRSP.

Sight Words

I had Jaxson finger paint his sight words.  We used YCR #7 word mat.

Science

I found this science experiment from Lesson in Grossology.  Basically, we learned how about how important our sense of touch is.  I put an object in the brown bag and Jax put a sock on his hand.  And then he had to guess what it was!  He loved this activity and we did this for quite a while.

Letter

Jaxson sounded out letter using RRSK's Phonic's worksheet.

Book

We read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff.  And then I found a counting activity over at Making Learning Fun.

Bible

Our Bible verse this week was, "Unto Thee oh Lord do I give thanks," Psalm 75:1.  We used the RRSP and RRSK printables from 1+1+1=1.  We cut and taped our Bible verse, painted it, and then cut it and glued it back together.

Math

We used the Animal ABC's printables from 1+1+1=1 and traced the shapes using finger paint.

Geography

This week we learned about Russia.  We are using the Phoenix Phaxx Great Commission videos and booklet to learn about different countries.

Sight Words

Jaxson's words this week are:  to, play, run, and find.  Using YCR Word Search, I had him find the letter and spell them out with his puzzle letters from Melissa and Doug's See and Spell puzzle.

Science

My dad had to have triple by-pass surgery this week.  So Jaxson wanted to know more about Pap-pap's "broken heart." (as he put it.)  I found this experiment from Kids Activities Blog and made a model heart using a baggie, pipe cleaners, and straws.  He absolutely loved this!

The acorn number by dot is from Fall Fun printables from Homeschool Creations.

Sight Words

Jax working on his sight words from YCR.

Science

Since our theme this week was transportation, we did a science experiment with paper airplanes.  I first asked Jax what made airplanes fly.  He said people and wind.  We used this science experiment from Kids Activities Blog.  And we learned that it is the wings that help it fly.  People help drive the plane, and wind may help glide the plane further, but planes need wings to fly.  We played this forever.  He absolutely loved it.

Story

This week we read, Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rossen.  We used Going on a Bear Hunt printables from Homeschool Creations.  Here Jax is working on the 3 Part Cards.

We had these glow in the dark stickers from a Mickey Space Adventure DVD.  So he used them on black paper to make a scene and then we framed it.  He thinks it's pretty cool he can see them in the dark.

Science

We made rain using hot water and ice cubes!  Instructions for this is from Habeebee Homeschooling. And we also observed what happens when a cloud is full of water using some cotton balls using the worksheet from the Rain printables from 2 Teaching Mommies.

Pre-School Letter Qq

Jax is 4 1/2 years old.

Bible

Our Bible verse this week was, "Quench not the spirit"  1 Thessalonians 5:19.  We used RRSK  to cut out the Bible verse and taped it back together.  Also, we colored the picture and then learned the song.

We used the self-correcting counting puzzles that were from the $1 spot at Target.

Sight Words

We did the salt color art on our sight words from RRSK.

We had some Halloween art this week.  Jax traced his hand and made a green spider.  Then we made a owl puppet out of a brown lunch sack.  We got these ideas from the Halloween Barney DVD.  Jax couldn't wait to try them.

Story

We read The Mitten by Jan Brett.  It was a cute little story and Jaxson enjoyed it.  Then we used Homeschool Creations printables that go along with the book.

Pre-School Letter Pp

Jax is 4 1/2 years old.

Bible

Our Bible verse this week was, "Praise the Lord for it is good to sing praises to the Lord."  Psalm 147:1.  We used RRSK  to cut out the Bible verse and taped it back together.  Also, we colored the picture and then learned the song.

Math

We did lots of math this week!  Our theme was "pirates" and so we used 1+1+1=1 Kindergarten printables.  He loves the number lines and at first we used the provided token to cover up the number.  But then we start playing a game  to try and find the silliest thing to cover up the number.  I believe the sock was the silliest thing we came up with.

We used the number clip cards from 2 Teaching Mommies.

I had Jax work on the Listening and Color worksheet from RRSK.  He doesn't like that the worksheet tells him what to color, but he's learning.

And we used the Pirate Kindergarten Printables to count what money he had in his piggy bank.

Sight Words

We used 1+1+1=1's YCR #5.  His sight words this week were:  up, down, go, here.  He's been having a hard time drawing straight lines on this YCR shape worsheet so I dug out the ruler and he was loving it.  He is a pro at the word search too!  And lastly, I used the words from last week and had him write them out.  Lots of good practice for handwriting.

Art

We painted our canvases to make this Bible verse to hang in their room.  I had planned to let them dry and then we would do our footprint and handprints.  But Jax got a hold of them and him and Julie colored all over the painted canvas.  This project is on hold now.  We need to repaint.

Story

This week we read Good Night Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.  He has loved this book since he was two, but still wanted to do for his weekly book.

Since we were also reading Goodnight Moon for the week, we used Homeschool Creation's Good Night Moon printables and sorted out pairs and singles of socks and mittens.  Great discussion for him to understand what a pair is.

I also printed out the Hey Diddle Diddle nursery rhyme from that same printable set and we highlighted the words that he knew.  And then I had him "read" it.  Now, he knows this rhyme by heart, but I made him slow down and we said each word together.  This just gave him so much confidence that he can start reading stuff!  He couldn't wait to "read" it to daddy that night.

RRSK: Playing

Jax is 4 1/2 years old.

With Justin being gone on a mission trip last week, I decided we'd take a break from Tot School and just play.

Being a single parent is hard work.  So I figured the less I had to plan, the better!

We started off the week by going to the indoor playground at the mall.

Another day we went to the indoor playground.

And yet another playground...

We played outside in our pool.

I caught him sitting in one of the canvas bins watching TV.  How he fit into that is beyond me.

We played with bubbles!

And Jax got a new Angry Bird puzzle!  We worked on this together as well.

And that was our week.  Lots of fun!

RRSK: Letter Hh

Jax is 4 1/2 years old.

This week was about the letter Hh.  And I didn't have a theme to go with it.  I knew it was going to be a shorter week for us because on Friday we planned on surprising Jax by going to the museum.

1.  Working on cutting and gluing his sight words.

2.  Letter Hh maze using magnet pom-poms and cookie sheet.

3.  Working on his Father's Day card.  He drew a picture of all of us.  So cute!

4.  Working on the hot/cold temperatures with RRSK.

5.  The museum has a little stage where both Jax and Julie loved to climb on.

6.  There were all sorts of sensory items in there.  Jax is feeling a bear's fur.

7.  Roar!  They had a lot of costumes too!

8.  This puzzle was hard, but with both of us working together, we did it!
