Raising Rock Stars Preschool: Letter Bb

Jaxson is 48 months old!

Tot School

This week was about the letter Bb and B is for Body!

We started off this week by working on Labeling the Face Worksheet by Two Teaching Mommies.

Play-doh was a huge hit this week.  He got a Play-doh activity center for his birthday and we played with it every. single. day.

We painted our Bible verse from RRSP at 1+1+1=1.

I loaded PDF worksheets onto our iPad for Jax to use. I used A-Z Letter Hunt Worksheets by Confessions of a Homeschooler and Feelings Tot Pack from 1+1+1=1.

Here are instructions to loading PDF's on the iPad.  Instead of using the App PDF-Notes, I use Noteability.  Jax thinks this is so cool and it saves paper!

Practiced writing the letter Bb from RRSP at 1+1+1=1.

We traced our site words for this week from YCR at 1+1+1=1.

We colored faces that showed different feelings from 2 Teaching Mommies.

We played Angry Birds.  A lot.

We worked on our Sesame Street Workbook.  This one was all about numbers.

We labeled more body parts from 2 Teaching Mommies.

We colored more sight words from YCR at 1+1+1=1.

We found letters in our sensory box to make our sight words and matched them up.

We traced Jax's body.  He loved this.  We drew his face and he kept saying he was really tall.

We put together an Angry Birds puzzle.  Many, many times.

We worked on the other Sesame Street workbook about letters while Julianne tried to grab it.

And we put together a mini-book All About Me from Lawteedah.

I'm linking up to Homeschool Creations and 1+1+1=1!

Raising Rock Stars Preschool: Letter Pp

Jax is 47 months old.

Tot School

This week was all about the letter Pp.  And Pp is for pirates!

First we started with playing Angry Birds.  He loves this and we play this everyday.

We played with the Color Wheel again from Mama Jenn.

We started out the week with our RRSP Curriculum

Jax painted his Bible verse, cut and pasted it, and watched the powerpoint.

Jax loves his Crayola Dry Erase Activity center to find letters.

We built a pirate ship.  So much fun!

In our YCR lesson, we matched letters to our words and put the puzzles together.

We also worked on connecting the words and following the lines to connect the site words.

We worked on some pirate math from the 1+1+1=1 Kindergarten Printables.

We talked about our colors with the Pirate Parrot coloring book from Homeschool Creations.

We glued the RRSP Bible craft.

And to practice our sight words we put them around his room and threw the Angry Bird bean bags to each one we called out.  He LOVED this.  I got this idea off of 1+1+1=1.

And lastly, since Pirates love their gold, we talked about coins and matched them to the different pictures.  This was also from Kindergarten Printables from 1+1+1=1.

I'm linking to Preschool Corner at Homeschool Creations and Tot School at 1+1+1=1!

Raising Rock Stars Preschool: Letter Dd

Jax is 47 months old.

Tot School

We had a great week in Tot School.  Jax truly loves it and I was glad to be hanging out with him.  Our focus this week:

Letter Dd (RRSP curriculum, sounds, writing)

Dd is for Dinosaur (theme)

YCR Lesson 1 (sight word: the)

Jaxson started off the week by painting his Letter Dd Bible verse from RRSP.  Julianne joined in and played ate a puzzle.

He cut his Bible verse and taped it with very little help from me!

And we worked on our RRSP craft of using positive words instead of complaining or arguing.  This was great to explain to Jax that we don't say "no" and why "yes" is always nicer.

I let him cut out his thought bubles which is why they are so big.  And I really let him work on the glueing all by himself.  Which explains why he used half a bottle of glue for this project.

We worked on ABC Dot to Dot page.  He understood the concept really well and did great.  And the picture was a dinosaur!  Imagine that!

We played with Play-doh a lot.  And Jax even made a letter Dd with it!  He usually doesn't like to, but I guess he was in the mood....(play-doh mat printable from Confessions of a Homeschooler.)

We painted, used stickers, and drew with markers.  Lots and lots of art this week!

I started YCR Lesson 1 with Jax.  He's showing interest in reading, but I don't want to push him.  So we are starting with sight words and sounds of letters.  If he gets it, great!  If he doesn't, then I am at least exposing him to it.

I had him cut out the different sentences with the sight words in it and put it in our tabletop chart.  We searched for the word "the."

We colored the word "the".  Then I had him write the word on our white board and then match up the letter tiles.  He did great!

Then we took one of his books and looked for the word "the" in it.  He liked finding that!

We practiced writing the letter Dd from RRSP.

And we did another ABC Dot to Dot page.  This one had more of the alphabet and I could tell this was harder for him.

And the Color Wheel from Mama Jenn was the hit of the week!

Basically, it's water with three food colors in it.  Using an eye dropper, you mix the colors on the worksheet.  He just was fascinated that yellow+blue=green!  After mixing the colors, we would put a paper towel over it and the colors would soak through.  He did this for over a 1/2 hour.  No joke!

Next week:  Pp is for Pirates!

Tot School: O Christmas Tree

Last weeks lesson was all about Christmas!

Tot School

But first, Jax has been bugging me to paint.  So I let him have at it!

He enjoyed this so much that he did it almost every day to start off "school."  Messy, but fun.

Jax colored the Presents Colors book from 2 Teaching Mommies.

He did so good at this!  He would color the presents the right color and then trace the words on the bottom.  I was so proud.  Cause I know that I never get that kind of cooperation!

We also did a Christmas Tree Shape matching game.  I also used our shape pieces for something extra and he enjoyed it.

We also tried out the "What is Different?" worksheet from 2 Teaching Mommies.  This was challenging for him.  But not too much where he was frustrated, which is good.

We also played a matching game with the Twelve Days of Christmas by 1+1+1=1.  He loves this song and knows all the motions with Barney (unfortunately, so do I) so I printed this out to for him to see the pictures.

He played with play-doh a lot too.

And did I mention that we painted?  A lot?

And I also put together a quick sensory bin.  It's just salt with different scoops, beads, etc.  He loves it, but it is messy!

What a great week!  Onto more Christmas activities!

I'm linking up with 1+1+1=1!

Ww is for {whatever}....

Jax is 46 months old.  {Or in "normal" terms 3 1/2 years old.)

It was hard to come up with a theme for W.  So I didn't.  I kept things pretty low key this week.  It was nice outside, and I wanted all of us to enjoy it!

I took Jax to Michael's this week to pick out finger paint.  He loves this stuff and we had run out.  He was so excited to get it.  He had to carry it to the checker and carry it to the car.  And as soon as we got home...it was painting time!

I know I post about how we love RRSP curriculum, but we really do! Jax's favorite part is to paint the Bible verse and to cut out the Bible verse.

I'm giving Jax's eye hand coordination a workout by having him use the hole puncher.  I see such an improvement when he uses scissors now but he could still use some practice!  And I thought this would be something different.  He liked that it would punch out little circles.

We worked on our color book from Confessions of a Homeschooler.

Since painting was a huge focus this week, I showed him how to blow into a straw to spread the paint.  He thought that was weird but gave it a go!  But then he got messy and used his fingers.

And just to show that even though Jax is enthusiastic about Tot School, he does get sidetracked a bit...

More cutting practice...

Identifying patterns using the Preschool Workbook I got at the dollar store.  He's starting to catch onto this now!

Mm is for Monster!

{Jax is 45 months.}

This week was all about monsters!!!  The friendly and nice kind...nothing scary here!

As always, we started out with our RRSP stuff.

We made monsters out of play-doh.  I found a bunch of googly eyes in our craft drawer to make them more realistic.  He got a kick out of the fact that monsters can have as many eyes as we could create!  (idea from I Can Teach my Child.)

We worked on our Monster Clip Cards from 2 Teaching Mommies.  This was the first time that I used clips with him.  He had a hard time with them at first and got a little frustrated, but in a good way.  Pretty soon, he got the hang of it and had no problems at all.  Just gotta work out those fine motor skills, that's all!

Next up, Monster Number Puzzles from 2 Teaching Mommies!  I even let him draw a monster and then cut it out to put together.  He thought that was fun.

We jumped over to RRSK and used a couple of the Monster Kindergarten printables that Jax could understand.  I had him color the monster in the shapes and matched up the coins.

We used magnetc pom poms to play with the M is for Monster from 2 Teaching Mommies.

Jaxson loved the Roll a Monster Graphing from 2 Teaching Mommies.

We also just created art.  Nothing like letting a kid use his imagination.  He had fun with stickers and markers inside...but when it was nice outside, he had fun with the sidewalk chalk outside!  Fall is gorgeous here!

Kk is for Kick!

Jax is 44 months.

This week was all about the letter Kk.  And let me tell you, I had to stretch the theme a little bit.  Jax kept saying Kk is for kick, so we worked on a football theme. Cause you kick the ball...see?  It's a stretch, but Jax enjoyed it.

We started out with RRSP curriculum from 1+1+1=1.  Jax loved the Bible verse with his tongue sticking out!  (Psalm 34:13)

We worked on Football Clip Cards from 2 Teaching Mommies.  He loved this!

More letter work from Beginning Reading.  He loves to find the letters!

And in working with our theme, we went outside to kick some balls.  Actually, we played all kinds of sports:  baseball, soccor, football, and golf!

We also worked on some art too.  He hadn't worked with stickers in a while and he loves doing them!

We worked on matching shapes this week.  This worksheet was from Life With My Giggly Girls.

I'm trying to be more intentional about working with colors.  I found this great pocket chart game from Daycare Resource   And we also worked on My First Color Book from Confessions of a Homeschooler.  This week, we worked on the color blue.

We worked on Football Size Sort from 2 Teaching Mommies.  I was showing Jax the concept of medium.  He understands big and little, but this was new for him.  He really like the "teeny-tiny footballs".

And lastly, we played with our alphabet puzzle.  We found our site word "your" and then made many other words with the letters.  We would also count the letters in each word.  This was great for him because he ran around and burned off some energy too!

Next week we will be working on the letter Mm.  And Mm is for Monsters!

Aa is for Apple

(Jax is 44 months old.)

We spent two weeks on the letter Aa and our unit theme was all about apples!  (His favorite fruit!)

We started off the week by using the RRSP curriculum from 1+1+1=1.  Jax colored his Bible verse, cut it out the verse and taped it, watched the Aa powerpoint, and practiced writing his letter A.

We worked on a connect the dot (apple) worksheet from KidSparkz and counting "apples" on a tree (using the apples from Hi Ho Cheeri) for math this week.  (I cannot find where I downloaded this apple tree activity.  Anyone recognize it?)

We used Finding the letter Aa worksheet from Beginning Reading and letter Aa matching upper case and lower case activity from Lightning Bug Literacy.  This was so cute!

Jax painted an apple picture and drew apples as well using Aloha Kindergaten's apple poem!

Play-doh was a BIG hit this week...he had new colors to work with!  And a new stamping number set.  I also printed out this letter A play-doh mat.  He has to roll it into balls and put them on the A as if they were apples!  He played with this multiple times.

The Alphabet puzzle came out more than once...

And this was the best activity of all...Apple Science from 2 Teaching Mommies!

We had to look at the apple and observe what color it was. Then we had to smell that apple, feel it, and then taste the apple.  We had to see if it was sweet or salty.  Jax didn't understand so I gave him a bowl of sugar and another one of salt to taste.  He did not like the salt, but loved the sugar! Anyways, he thought that was so neat.  And then he finally got to eat the apple!

Meanwhile...Julianne was in the middle of everything!  Pulling workboxes off the shelf, eating the alphabet puzzle, etc!  And so we are now doing Tot School during her naptime and it is working out great!

Raising Rock Stars Preschool: Letter Zz (continued)

Jax is 43 months.

Well, we continued our week about Zz is for zoo and zebra!

You can see what we did for the letter ZZ last week here.

I found this Preschool workbook at the dollar store, so we have slowly been working through it.  Jax enjoys doing it and I like that it has some math skills in it for him.

We enjoyed lots of puzzles.

Yes, lots of animal themed puzzles.

We also matched up the animals from his Fisher Price zoo playset.  I got the animal cards at the Target $ spot and we love them!

We used the Zoo unit printables from 2 Teaching Mommies for the counting lesson.  I had Jax count the animals and place the correct number with it.  (used magnet numbers...so versatile!)  He loved this but got a little frustrated when we got to the higher numbers because he just wanted to know how many there were!

Next up, Aa is for Apple!

Raising Rock Stars Preschool: Letter Zz

Jax is 43 months.

This week is all about the letter Z!  Z is for Zoo and Zebra.  So we are having a lot of fun learning about different animals that are at the zoo!

We started off this week with our Raising Rock Stars Curriculum.

Jax viewed the Powerpoint lesson, painted his Bible verse about Zacchaeus, used a ginormous amount of tape for his Bible verse, and then we hung it up.  With the huge amount of tape.

We worked our on our site word, "down" this week.  He typed it on the computer while Julianne gazed at it.

Jax worked on his zoo coloring book from 2 Teaching Mommies.  This turned out really cute, and he loved that he had to find the different colors in his crayon box.

We also worked on his Zacchaeus craft from Raising Rock Stars.  I had him cut out the Bible verse and picture of Zacchaeus.  Which explains why everything is cut into a million of pieces.

Jax also played Roll a Zebra from Confessions of a Homeschooler.  He wasn't super thrilled with this.  He isn't into games too much.  But I thought it was super cute!

Tot Trays:

Jax always request play-doh!  We also identified our coins again this week from Counting Coconuts.  He's getting so much better now!

Sensory Bin:

Our sensory bin this week was a hit!  I used his little people animal figures and poured brown rice into a tub.  I used a fake plant for some bushes for the animals.  He loved to scoop up the rice and pour it, let the animal "walk" through it and plant the bushes.

Julianne:

Can you find Julianne?

We will still be working on the letter Z next week.  I didn't get to everything I wanted to work on with him.  And there is just so much stuff you can do with this theme!

I'm linking this to Tot School at 1+1+1=1 and Preschool Corner at Homeschool Creations.
